The Kitchen is at the center of the universe, and it is Kwentos (a Filipino word for short stories) that hold this universe together. Aileen was raised by immigrant parents from the Philippines. During a childhood exploration of the kitchen, Aileen came across a tattered Philippine cookbook her mother had brought overseas. The recipes within sparked a growing curiosity for Filipino foods. Threading together stories, recipes, and travels, Kitchen Kwento by Natural Chef student Aileen Suzara, is one way of honoring Filipino roots and capturing a snapshot of a constantly changing American culinary landscape, with its many recipes of celebration, survival and resilience.![]() Simla Somturk Wickless is a Nutrition Educator and creator of the Delicious Health Blog. The Daily Diner, by Nutrition Educator Amanda Louden, focuses on meal planning, budgeting, and eating regular American foods that are made with sustainable ingredients. Welcome! This blog is a frill-free zone. I love food, and approach nutrition from a love of eating. All animals eaten are free range, grass fed, or wild caught. All produce is local and seasonal. All legumes and grains are dry, soaked and often sprouted. Each week, I meal plan (and post) 4-6 dinners. 4-6 dinners a week seems to be enough to keep a budget down, and not overwhelming. Throughout the week recipes and information about food, nutrition and living healthy are posted. - Amanda Check out The Making of a Natural Chef blog by Natural Chef Shoshana Deutschkron to follow her adventures as she progresses from student to trained chef in the Bauman College Berkeley program. This blog follows my adventures, both in school and life, as I blossom from avid foodie to trained chef. - Shoshana Start from the beginning to follow Shoshana through our Spring 2009 program.
