Bauman Graduates?
«

So.... now that we are NCs
What companies can we actually work with and what can we do?
For ex. Metagenics -- we can order supplements from them... what other companies can we order tests from?
Thanks!

Go to
www.emersonecologics.com
You can work with almost every supplement company whose products are sold there. You may have to sign up directly with some of the companies, like Designs for Health, but that's an easy thing to do.
For those who are still students, some companies offer student accounts. Two that I know of are Metagenics and Innate Response.

Karen,
I've attached a list of labs and what they offer. This is the most up to date information I have, but it tends to change over time, so you may find some things are different when you contact them.

Why is it that these resources are not provided in the studies? This seems like a flaw to me. One should graduate with a full list of resources.

Hi Misty,
You make an excellent point to which I'd like to respond.
Re: Lab testing resources. This has been tricky. The new NC course will provide information in the Therapeutic portion of the program, though the old NC contained a small amount of information about testing. The reason there hasn't been a lot is that a fair amount of education is required for students to be able to go out and order testing. And I don't mean just learning which tests do what, though that is important. There are legal issues with NCs and testing. Some people don't believe we should be able to order tests and are working to take away this privilege. This means that NCs need to be very careful in their approach and in the language used with clients, in order to dispel any notion that we're providing diagnostic and prescriptive services. The new material addresses this in-depth, but there remains an element of concern to which we are very sensitive. This has resulted in caution on our part and perhaps a bit of reluctance in presenting information.
However, the list I posted is up to date as of the middle of 2010. It's really nice to see you still active on the forum, and because of that, you'll benefit from other updates as time goes on. Please understand that the entire field of holistic nutrition is evolving, maturing, and becoming more sophisticated. Bauman College is doing the same, but this all takes time.
Re: Supplement companies. The Handbook you used had a list of supplement companies, including some distributors, up near the front. Some of the information has changed. For example, Terrace International Distributors (TID) was swallowed up by Emerson Ecologics. And companies come and go, buy other companies or get bought, or sometimes just change names. It's not possible to keep up with this kind of marketplace flux.

NC graduates can take modules from the new program, such as lab assessment as a single 'pro module'. They can join an existing class on a space permitting basis, or receive the slides with ED audio's and the digital chapter in our handbook for that module home study.
There is no homework requirement for 'pro modules', but if someone wants to use them for continuing education credit (CEU's), they would have to pass the quiz to receive CEU credit.
See the catalog or website for the class price information. To find out about the dates, times and location of the topic you are interested in, call the student adviser in Penngrove, who will check out space advisability and instruct you on how to register.
Pro modules will be ready for purchase on or after the date they occur in the classroom, so that a module that is offered in July, 2011 will be available at that time, but not in February, as I am still working on text and audio's for the TN lessons.

I just wanted to add a note here re: supplement accounts for NC's...
I was inquiring with Standard Process re: a student account, which they do NOT do... and sadly, NC graduates can not get an account either. If you are an NC and want a SP account, you must also have a MASTERS degree in a related (medical) field. (well, that's if you live in Northern CA. apparently the Norther CA office is more lenient... the corporate office says you must be licensed in order to get an account)
This was really disappointing news as the brand SP is recommended quite frequently in class. In the future I hope the program will focus on making reference to supplement brand that we are able to get an account with... and let's hope they don't all start tightening the reins!

Corporate offices are very cautious re. liability issues.
I suggest students and graduates contact Innate Response, another excellent food based supplement manufacturer and distributor to set up an account. They WANT Bauman College business. Be sure to mention you go to
Bauman.
I am very pleased with their products and educational approach which is compatible with Eating for Health.

Ali, I want to throw in my two cents about Standard Process, too. I think their whole foods supplements are great. Lots of their products, though, contain glandulars, which are sourced from the USDA. I got this information directly from them. I know, I know, people love this company, but I just can't use substances from tortured and sick animals, even if they're purified. Makes me uncomfortable. That's just me; I know others don't suffer from that particular concern.
I use Innate Response products (and their other company's, Right Foods) and obtain pastured glandulars from other sources. Innate is happy to have students open accounts. They're an east coast company working on getting their products better known out here. They've started coming to the NANP conferences and they're eager to help us learn about everything to do with organic whole foods supplements. I've been using their products for many years now, and clients are very happy with them.

Wow, thank you for sharing the info about SP's sourcing of glandulars. I did not know that and have been using many of their products for some time.
I am an NC grad as well and have had an account with them for years (4). Maybe they have become more strict recently?
