POWER !!!

« on: February 15, 2011, 08:31:26 AM »

So i took on the humbling mission of revitalizing my clinically depressed, malnourished, sick alcoholic father! and could use any advice possible ! its been realy hard !!! his situation is a little worse than thought, he has bad long term ulcers, acid indigestion, diarrhea and vomit since months and months !!! has  a swollen prostate to ! Sad and cant seem to digest anything Sad ive been struggling to find something he can gut.... ive been trying to alkalize his body and get him some vital micro-nutrients, minerals and vitamins etc through supplementation, i have him take some wheat grass powder and blue green algae in the mornings, then his omega 3-6-9, mens daily multivitamin, mineral capsule, milk thistle capsule with an advocado in the evening. I was thinking of introducing some miso soup in the mornings, i just thought that may help the diarrhea?

Any ideas, comments, past experiences... anything at all would b amazing !!!

Thank you soooooo much and bless you and all your relations

Truly grateful

Hi, Daniel:  This is a tough situation to address, as you note.  Regarding the diarrhea and therefore the subsequent digestion dilemma -- don't forget the power of probiotic supplementation.

From ingesting wonky foods that my body rejects, to addressing the side-effects of chemotherapy regimes - this is an important and simple way to support our body in returning to a balanced state that then allows the absorption of well-sourced nutrients.

Readily available at the retail level, Jarrow offers some good products.  Dr. Ohhira's formulas are particularly potent and can be very useful.  If his regular formula doesn't do the trick, upgrade your father to their Professional version.

Best of health to you and your father.

Good afternoon Daniel.  Does your father want help?  If so, then I would ask him where he'd like to start.  And I would suggest you begin with cooking together--simple, whole foods that are nourishing that meet his goals.  Your time is valuable and his health, ultimately, is his to choose and work for.  You have many resources to offer and are a gift in that process.
If he's interested in cooking invest in a hand spice grinder.  I have found hand grinding spices to be very nurturing and therapeutic on many levels.  Sounds simple--it can be very helpful.  Then teach him how to cook simple foods that are good for digestion such as kitchadi which is a soupy extra cooked rice and dal dish with good digestive spices, like ginger, cumin, turmeric.
Your father sounds like he's been on a downward path for quite a while, be sure you let him take charge of his recovery.  And if he isn't ready, focus on your own healing and send him love quietly.
Blessings, Esther Palmer

Hi Daniel,

I hope things are looking better for your father.  I think a really easy way to get him some vital nutrients is by juicing/smoothies.  Mix the green powders with fruits and veggies that he likes.  Try and have him drink at least 3 of these a day.  Be sure to add parsley and plenty of greens, some nuts, flax seed, and whatever else he likes.
Good luck!

Hi Daniel,

On a healthy note, you might, in addition to the wonderful ideas already presented, add some nurturing broths to his fluid intake.
A great mineral broth, even chicken broth.
Best to you,

These are all great suggestions. I would also add that it is important not to overload his system too quickly. This gentleman's system is pretty damaged, so he will not be able to digest/assimilate all these great foods you are suggesting. You may want to go back to the the "4 R's" and focus on getting the bad stuff out and helping him heal his gut. You might consider a product like Designs for Health GI Revive along with very, very simple meals for a while to allow some healing to occur.

DFH's GI Revive also has glutamine, which could assist with the support of sugar cravings consistently found in alcoholism.
