I am three weeks into the NC course and find myself paralyzed at the grocery store.  I live and work full time in the East Bay and shop at Trader Joe's and Safeway markets for convenience, but now I run in, look around and break out in a sweat thinking, "OMG what's been done to this meat!"  In a perfect world I would have time to get to know my local farmer's market people but that's not going to happen for a while. So my 'plan B' is to research home delivery companies for local organic produce.  Years ago I used 'planetorganics' and found the service dependable and food quality excellent. Any other local organic delivery company recommendations?

You could try Whole Foods, looks like there is one in your neighborhood (I looked you up in the database Smiley )  Also, looks like there is a store called Harvest House?

I would recommend against shopping at Safeway period.  TJs veggies are weirdly wrapped in plastic).

A CSA is the best bet for fresh produce, as you say below, so you connect right with the farmer.  I would think a google search could help.

Good luck!

There's Diamond Organics for a delivery service. They're fairly local -- Monterey Bay area -- and they offer fabulous organic produce and lots, lots more. I get my mom gifts from them and she's always blown away. Of course, they're expensive, but what an awesome way to pamper yourself.

Oh shoot, I just went to look up the website for you, and a note came up saying that they're temporarily not accepting orders. The website is (surprise!) www.diamondorganics.com. You can contact them to see what's going on.

Hi there,

www.spud.com delivers many organic products and even produce to your doorstep. They are SF based. I have been using them regularly for miscellaneous items like seeds, nut butters and even dairy. Delivery fee is waived if your order totals a certain amount.

I love it that they tell you how many miles a particular product has traveled before it has reached you and their customer service is great.
