Hello,
My mother suffers from both diabetes and diverticulitis as well as obesity. Since nuts and seeds seem to be vital to health as well as helping in regulating blood sugar and metabolism, I was wondering if grinding the nuts and seeds made a difference for diverticulitis sufferers.... would it  still irritate her gut?  If so,would using the oils from the seeds and nuts still provide the same benefits or does it need to be the whole food? Would soaking the nuts to release the enzyme inhibitors also help reduce the inflammation caused in those with diverticulitis?
Thanks!

Soaking the nuts and seeds would make them more digestible. Also blending them into a puree or pate would help them to be easier to digest.

When someone is diagnosed with diverticulitis, the doctor prescribes a low-residue or low-fiber diet.  This is still the convention in Western medicine; however, whole-food/high fiber diets have been shown to be beneficial in decreasing inflammation and keeping digestion healthy.  Of course, it depends on the person, the diet, and if they are in an inflamed state or remission.

Soaking nuts will make them more digestible.  You can blend them, after soaking, to break them down further.  You can also soak your grains and beans, focus on cooked vegetables and fruits, include fermented foods, etc.
