Hello, this is my first post.  I am a new student to Bauman college.  I have been living in Santa Clara for 3 yrs and haven't found a place to buy organic produce–besides Whole Foods.  I was wondering if anyone knows my area?  If you do, I was also wondering if there are any organic or health driven restaurants in the area?

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tracy

Here are two resources for you to use to find fresh produce near you:
http://www.simplesteps.org/eat-local
http://www.localharvest.org/

Besides grocery stores, you'll want to look into Farmer's Markets and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) projects.

Here is a really old forum post about CSA's, that might be an interesting read:

Hi Marlina,

Thanks for your reply!  That was great information.  It looks like local farmers markets are closer than I thought.

I agree with Marlina especially on your local farmer's markets. I live in San Mateo County and just like Santa Clara County, we have farmer's markets that run every weekend all year long rain or shine. Within a 5 mile radius I have the schedules of Farmer's markets that go Wednesday thru Sunday (all in different cities). Don't you just love the Bay Area!

Of course when you are in a bind there are Whole Foods Markets everywhere as well as Trader Joe's that have a decent selection of organic produce. As for organic restaurants I don't know of many in Santa Clara County.  But I do know there are a ton in SF and Alameda County.  But nothing can beat home cooked meals since you will be certain that there is no cross contamination going on, which happens at "organic" restaurants.

Good luck!

Hello Michael,

You are right, home cooked meals are the best!
