I'm working with a friend who just completed a course of antibiotics for h pylori. He is very discouraged, as we all know, it takes a lot time and the right treatment to rid yourself of this. Any recommendations on what foods, herbs, supplements that he can try to help this process along. He is currently taking probiotics and I'm working with him to change his eating habits.
Thanks.....Pamela Mahon

Manuka honey (not regular honey) has been found to inhibit the growth of h. pylori
(http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/458834_5), and there are reviewers of the product on Amazon and elsewhere who say that it has worked for them.

Despite initial skepticism, I had a good experience with it myself, not with h. pylori (as far as I know), but with candida. You would think such a sugary product would be the worst possible thing for candida; I can only say it seemed to work despite that.

However, I found that it MUST be used with probiotics, which should be taken later in the day, or its antimicrobial effect creates imbalances. And it should be treated like a medicine, not a food; 1 to 2 teaspoons a day, no more.

It comes in different strengths; you'd want the higher ones. Wedderspoon is an organic brand commonly available around here (Berkeley); you'd want the 16+, not the 12+.

I believe there is some other posts somewhere on the forum about this, its really quite common. In fact I had a Duodenal ulcer infected with H Pylori  when I was 18 and successfully healed myself with both allopathic and naturpathic medthods.

Here is what I learned about what caused it. Diet (of course), stress, and NSAID's (like ibprophen and Tylenol). These can all lead to a weaking or destroying of the lining of the stomach, which then allows the native H Pylori to get a foot hold and make the open sore worse. Depending on where in the stomach his is you would want to look into a few different treatments.

Here is just a few of the things that helped me heal, look into these more and what seems right for your friend.

-Probiotics: essential mainly after but helpful during treatment. The best would be for him to learn to make his own Sauerkraut/kimchi  and consume that on daily basis
-Brassica's: Cabbage, kale, cauliflower, etc...contain many compounds that sooth and repair the gut.
-Licorice root: made into a tea, tincture or added to the sauerkrauts this is well known for its soothing, anti-bacterial and repairing qualities.
-Coconut milk: very soothing and anti-viral/bacterial, make a coconut chai tea with licorice/anise/ ginger, cinnamon, cardamon, clove, sweeten with stevia.
-Avoid like the plague: Wheat/gluten of any kind, sugar, coffee, sodas, junk food, pasturized dairy products (doing raw/cultured dairy products is very healing, goat milk would be best. Infact add the manuka honey to kefir for added benefit)
-Simple, soothing and easy to digest foods are more easy on the stomach, things like Kitchari with ghee, oatmeal, dairy free bisque soups.
-Bone broths: these have a host of soothing/healing properties but the gelatin and minerals are quite soothing for the whole gut.

you're right, it will take a long time and it most definitely a lifestyle change. Letting go of those past habits and even jobs/relationships that promoted the pain and suffering must be a consideration for ones health...

Just a gut feeling...
