I have a friend who is recovering from a broken hip.  The doctors have her on LOTS of antibiotics.  She is home bound for the next several weeks.  I will be doing my best to take care of her so I was wondering if anyone had any suggests on how I could best help her heal her body and mind (she has been very depressed).

Thanks,
Denise

Number 1 suggestion - lots of TLC! Here are a couple of other suggestions: Mineral broths are not only soothing but will help with her bones - see recipe in Recipes & Remedies for Rejuvenation. Also mineral tea. Stay a way from sugar. Sugar suppresses the immune system for up to 5 hours. The immune system is working big time right now so support from whole foods is a must! Holy basil is a mood enhancing herb that also has anit-oxidant properties, however make sure it isn't contraindicated with other meds like SSRIs. If she is on heavy antibiotics, probiotics won't do her much good right now because they will be killed off, however as soon as she gets off the antibiotics, high potency replacement probiotics are important for a few weeks after. BioK and rejuvenex can be found in a healthfood store and they really help, these are liquids. Garden of Life makes a good pro & pre biotic called Primal Defense. The homeopathic Arnica help with healing and pain and can be taken now to promote healing. Many people have great success with it after surgery and with serious injury.

Humor! Get her laughing, studies show that laughter actually enhances the immune system! Dr. Paul Pearsaw has done extensive research on this. Funny movies, books, books on tape etc. Physical contact with loving people will also speed healing.
