Hello O,

Thank you for your question.  Supplements are such a hot topic!  Bauman College teaches nutrients in the following manner:

The Bauman College Nutrition Educator course teaches students about micro-nutrients and their roles in human physiology.  Primarily, in this level we teach students where to find nutrients in food and to discern which nutrients are missing in a diet.  Students learn to use local, seasonal, organic, unrefined foods as well as "booster foods" (flax, spirulina, bee pollen, brewer's yeast, etc) to assist people in increasing and refining their nutrient intake in their daily diet.  Students study digestive physiology and use symptomology to understand complications in digestion.  Foods and herbs are then used to increase absorption of nutrients into a person's system.

In studying how imbalances lead to the development of conditions such as PMS, weight gain and fatigue, students learn to see nutrient patterns.  Food will be supportive primarily, and food based supplements, will be....well, supplemental.

In the Nutrition Consultant course, students are studying at the therapeutic level and delve into specific illnesses and the range of nutrients needed to recover from aging, illness and injury.  Often times, with these conditions an increased ratio of nutrients is needed (in addition to better dietary intake) and students learn to identify and critique current and non-biased research about different forms of nutrients and delivery methods.  Various types of supplementation are introduced to students for therapeutic protocols.
