Hi, Folks, There's a great new article by Michael Pollan [author of 'In Defense of Food' and 'The Omnivore's Dilemma'] in the food issue of the New York Times (10/9/08).

Go to: http://www.nytimes.com   and search for 'Farmer in Chief' or Pollan

Let's talk about it here!

On a similar note- please sign this petition for the WhoFarm in support of a "White House Organic Farm" that will educate people (and schoolchildren) about organic farming while providing local, organic produce to the communtiy in D.C.

Link to Michael Pollan's interview with Terry Gross on NPR, October 20, 2008:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95896389

In a open letter to the next president, author Michael Pollan writes about the waning health of America's food systems — and warns that "the era of cheap and abundant food appears to be drawing to a close.

Oh, thanks for sharing the Terry Gross interview link! I just listened to the interview, which was wonderful. I hope Obama reads Pollan's letter and digs up that pesticide laden White House lawn and plants an organic garden!

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom allowed the Slow Food folks to plant a garden on City Hall property. It was wildly successful, from what I hear. Here is a cool link with photos of the garden:
