More fish oil in fish skin?

An article appeared today in the NY Times about European MDs prescribing fish oil to heart attack survivors, especially in Italy.

I've frequently wondered if more omega-3-rich oil is found in the oily skin of fish than in the flesh. Does anyone recommend eating the skin to their clients?

Most of the omega-3 in fish is available in the skin or the liver of the fish, so I always recommend to fish eaters to eat the skin as well, to get the most they can. The oil from the liver (cod liver oil) has vitmans A and D in it, and from the skin (fish oil) does not. Flax oil and meal, hemp, primrose, borage, and black currant oils are great plant sources of EFAs, if you don't fancy eating fish skin.
