Steamed Thai Salmon

This is a great way to get a flavorful salmon with out using much additional oil. The salmon comes out really flaky and tender.
1 12 oz fillet of wild salmon- seasoned with salt and pepper
1 3inch piece ginger root, peeled and sliced
2 lemongrass stalks, trimmed and split in half
3 cloves garlic, sliced
2 shallots, sliced
1 jalapeno, sliced
1 lime, sliced into rounds
Marinade
1 T fish sauce
1 T soy sauce
1 T agave
1 tsp Sesame oil
Bamboo Steamer
Large Pot
Marinade the salmon first, while prepping the ingredients out. When everything is ready to go, bring the pot of water 1/3 way full to a boil. Once boiling, place in the bamboo steamer the ginger, shallot, lemongrass, jalapeno and garlic on bottom. Place the seasoned salmon on top and pour the rest of the juice on top. Finish the salmon with the lime slices. Place the steamer over the pot of water and turn down the heat to a simmer. Let steam for 15-20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fist.
Check the water about half way through to make sure that there is enough to continue steaming.
Serve with rice or rice noodles and a vegetable of your choice. If you have a double steamer, you can steam vegetables and fish at the same time.

This recipe sounds amazing! Thai food is my favorite of all cuisines and normally i hit up one of the great places in town, but now i can enjoy it at home. How can i get my hands on a bamboo steamer? Can't wait to try it:)

Hey Jenna,
Bamboo steamer...you can pretty much find them at any Asian Market. I got mine at a restaurant supply store, but you wouldn't have to go that far to get one. Just look up the local Asian Markets in your area and I'm sure you are bound to find one. They are pretty inexpensive, shouldn't cost you more than 10-15 dollars. A tip, if you have a wok, bamboo steamers are typically used with them, but its not necessary. Just make sure you have enough water in your pan, or you will burn your pan, your bamboo steamer and your food, eventually. I would love to know how things turn out!
