Hi there, AngieN ~

Diana's class sounds interesting and informative, and I'd like to participate in something similar when I complete the Natural Chef class.  In the meantime, I'd like to find an urban organic gardener/herbalist who might enjoy a pair of willing hands and ears in the garden.

Although I am interested in becoming a gardener, I have experience myself and would like to tail around an expert for a bit before I commit to more advanced classes.

Would you happen to know of any resources that can connect interested persons with folks open to receiving free labor?  Or perhaps you know some one yourself!!

Looking forward to hearing from you,
~ minoria franks

Greetings Minoria,

My apologies for the late reply! I hope you are loving the Natural Chef program!

I actually don't know of many urban gardening resources/experts which is why I thought posting Diana's information out on the forum would be a great way to spread the gardening love. I might contact her directly and see if you could help her with a class trade for labor.

Also, Sandy Der, who is also a Bauman grad has a really great urban garden in Oakland. She has started a gardening blog called http://planetveggiegarden.com which has tons of great information for gardening in the bay area. You may contact her and see where she is with this resource and see if she needs a helping hand.

Lastly, I just read this article (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/06/12/RVNN17VF7A.DTL) and (http://www.smithmag.net/memoirville/2009/06/23/interview-novella-carpenter-author-of-farm-city/) about a woman named Novella Carpenter. She wrote a book called "Farm City" and she actually has a real deal farm in West Oakland. She might be the best resource and I'm sure she would love a helping hand in continuing her cultivations. I'm not sure the best way to contact her but I'm sure with a little further research you would be able to find some information out on the web.

Hope this helps and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions!

Peace (is a verb)
