Hi there. I'm considering applying to Bauman.  I've already read lots on the debate about Holistic programs versus R.D programs, and I'm sure I do not want to go the R.D route (even if its holistic minded like Bastyr).  However I can't seem to find info on the advantages of getting a Masters in Science of Holistic Nutrition or Masters of Nutritional Therapy, versus the less science-based option like a Nutrition Consultant.   Why did you all opt for Consultant degree versus the Masters?  Is one more employable with a masters? or is it really just the RD title that makes a big difference?    Also, I've looked at other Master of Science online programs: Hawthorne, Clayton...  anyone have any opinions of these schools? or other ideas?   Thanks for your help!

Hello

Welcome to Bauman College.  I see from your post that you have already researched the differences between a Registered Dietitian and a Holistic Nutrition Professional and that you are clear on which philosophy and pathway you are most interested in pursuing.

Bauman College is a Vocational College and offers Certificate Programs.  Our programs are not Degree Programs.  It is important for you to do in-depth research on any Holistic Nutrition College that claims to offer Degree Programs.  You want to verify that the college is accredited by an accrediting agency which is recognized by the United States Department of Education.  Unfortunately, there are several schools that offer the title of Masters or Bachelors Degree's but are not accredited by an agency that is recognized by the US Dept. of Education.  These so called degrees will not offer you any advantage over a Holistic Nutrition Certificate Program and will not carry the weight of a Master's/Bachelor's Degree Program completed at an accredited college.

Nutrition graduates who have obtained a valid 'Degree in Nutrition' and earned the title of 'Nutritionist' from an accredited college, recognized by the US Dept of Education, have the ability to become Licensed in the states that still have Licensure Laws.

Bauman College offers an in-depth, affordable education in the emerging integration of conventional and holistic health care.  Our philosophy is non-dogmatic, seeking to find the ideal diet and life-style uniquely suited to each individual.  We teach an in-depth understanding of biochemical individuality.  We emphasize the use of whole, organic foods, nutritive herbs, and appropriate supplementation to restore metabolic balance.

I am always available to discuss this topic in more detail with anyone who is interested in learning more.  My Bauman College office hours are: Mon - Fri, 9:00AM - 4:30PM Pacific Time.

Be Well,
Marsha McLaughlin
