Has anyone ever experienced a pineapple allergy before? I have a client that experiences mouth stinging and stomach pains after eating pineapple. What component in the pineapple causes this and are there related foods that should be avoided?

Thank you,

I have had similar symptoms when eating raw pineapple or bananas.  I've never figured out why those two foods cause my mouth and lips to burn, but it's relatively consistent.  With bananas, my reactions are more pronounced when the fruit is really ripe (brown spots on peel).  At this point, I just don't eat either of them.  I'm curious to hear any insight that others may have on this topic.

I find this so interesting.

My 8 1/2 year old daughter has been telling me that raw pineapple bothers her when she eats it (her mouth feels "weird") but she can eat it mixed in a smoothie or she can eat it canned.

I would be interested to hear more.

I think I may be mildly allergic to pineapple, and maybe papaya as well....I feel like they're related.  When I eat a fair amount of pineapple raw, it makes me mouth feel strange, and my stomach a little acidic.
Also, I got a facial from a woman I work with, (who is amazing and uses lots of organic products) and she used an active enzyme from pineapple- it made my face really red, which she said has never happened before.  Next time she used papaya- same thing!  Very odd...
