Hi,

I'm looking into possibly doing the Nutrition Educator program (distance learning because I'm in NJ) and I have a meeting with the One Stop Career Center to see if I can get WIA funding (fingers cross). I recently became interested in nutrition after watching films like Food Inc., Foodmatters, and The beautiful Truth. I started realizing that my most of the food I buy from the supermarket contain ingredients like "high fructose corn syrup" and "hydrogenated oil" in my peanut butter.
I'm sick and tired of people like my parents and friends saying they can't afford to eat healthy, fresh organic food. And thus, I want to help them look for a way to do this and possibly expand to help others too. Does the NE program train you to help people budget their grocery spending too? Also why does it seem there are more women in the this field than men? Thank you.

Hello

Good luck at your meeting with your One Stop Career Center.  We have many students enrolled in Bauman College on grants funded through the WIA (Workforce Investment Act).

I can see from your post that you are interested in helping others learn how to eat healthy and affordably.  Our Bauman College Nutrition Educator Program will teach you how to eat and shop healthy. Many people do not realize how much money they actually can save each week by cutting out pre-packaged and processed food, which are usually full of unhealthy ingredients. Many of our graduates work with their clients to teach them how to buy the healthiest and most cost effective groceries.  They assist with setting up their 'pantry' and even teach them how to prepare meals using 'unfamilar' foods. Like your family and friends, many people need help in this area.

In general, it seems that women are more interested then men in working in the 'Health Related Fields'. The majority of Bauman College students are women.  That said, there are also men who complete our training programs and are doing great work in the field.

I am always available to talk with you in more detail to you specific questions.  You can reach me directly at our Bauman College administrative offices.  My contact information is:

Good luck and I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi,

I am also in NJ and am looking into the same program as you.  Did you have any luck with WIA?  I had an appt. with my One Stop Career Con. and was advised that I needed to make sure the career I choose was in demand.  Did you find this as an in demand job? Would love to know how you are doing in the whole process.  Also, the school has to be on their approved list.

Thanks,
Kimberly

Hi Kimberly

Please let me know if you need any specific information from Bauman College to provide to your Career Counselor.  I have documents prepared that I can email to you.  Often they want you to obtain Employment Opportunites for Graduates and ask you to interview graduates of the program.  We have a Graduate Referral List that can be emailed to you.  Please contact me directly to let me know what information your counselor/you need and I will email it to you.  I am always available to answer any questions that you have.  I am also looking forward to Aguy's reply to see how his appointment went.  Maybe the two of you can connect to discuss further.

Be Well,

Hello
You will need to research the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) program at your local Employment Development Department office.  They can let you know what their process is for applying for and receiving re-training funds. The funding amounts vary from office to office and even month to month.  Good Luck.
