The quality of instruction and progressive academic culture make it a place where the learning experience is deepened.” Since graduating from the Nutrition Consultant program in Berkeley, I started a private practice in the East Bay Area where I saw clients with a wide variety of health challenges. Over time, I cultivated a relationship with local doctors, chiropractors and acupuncturists as part of a network of practitioners who use integrative modalities and with whom I could both send and receive clients. In September of 2006 I moved my practice to the Health Medicine Center in Lafayette, Ca., where I am currently the staff nutrition consultant. I have the privilege of working with Len Saputo, MD and other great practitioners to help people who have cancer, diabetes, heart disease, digestive disorders and other illnesses. We have created a collaborative practice, where we discuss cases and share clinical information to really understand client histories. People with illness need to be heard and understood. I have found that helping someone improve their relationship to food is just as important as all the supplements and lab tests. This work is enormously rewarding and challenging. In addition to this, I have been a frequent guest speaker at numerous health-related conferences and am active in the National Association of Nutrition Professionals and in the Health Medicine Forum, both nonprofit organizations that promote prevention and holistic health. The need for credentialed, holistic nutrition professionals is growing in response to the ever-rising trend of preventable, degenerative disease. I am dedicated to the practice of whole foods nutrition based on biochemical individuality, and am an ongoing student in the science and history of nutrition. I owe a debt of gratitude to the many great pioneers in the field, in which I believe Dr. Bauman holds a prominent place. My plan for the future is to continue putting time and energy toward bringing nutrition and preventive health education to my community. |
