Distance Learning | Print |
The Nutrition Educator and Nutrition Consultant Training Programs are available via Distance Learning. People who live far away, have time constraints, or simply prefer to work at their own pace can receive our excellent nutrition training at home. Our program is comprehensive, informative, and at the forefront of the rapidly growing field of nutrition. The Distance Learning Program brings the classroom to the student, giving one the flexibility and freedom to pursue high-quality holistic education. This option is suitable for self-motivated people who are able to study in an independent, self-directed manner.

Program Features:
  • Self-paced learning
  • Same curriculum foundation as the dynamic classroom programs
  • Personal mentoring
  • Interactive tele-lectures with Director Ed Bauman, Ph.D.
  • Semi-annual onsite program enhancement workshops
  • Exclusive Internet-based student community forums

The Distance Learning instructor is Dr. Ed Bauman, M.Ed., Ph.D., Director of Bauman College. DL course materials include audio CDs narrated by Dr. Bauman, our outstanding course handbook, and an array of textbooks authored by leaders in the nutrition field. Diet evaluation software and educational videos are also included.

You will be assigned a Personal Mentor to guide you through the entire program. Following each course module that you complete, you will consult with your personal mentor via telephone. S/he will grade and provide feedback on your work, answer your questions, direct you to additional resources, and fill in any gaps in your independent study. You will then be prepared for your next module and will set its due date. Having a mentor provides a gentle extra push toward completing your education and starting to reap the benefits, helping the world become a healthier place!

Self-Paced Programs

You may begin the Bauman College Distance Learning Program at any time. A reasonable completion timeframe for Nutrition Educator or Nutrition Consultant students is 10 months, although up to 18 months is permitted. Study required to complete the program in the allotted time varies, depending on a student’s learning pace and prior knowledge, but approximately 5-10 hours per week is a reasonable estimate in order to complete a program within 10 months.

A medium level of computer proficiency is strongly recommended for our Distance Learning Program, as educational materials (MP3 audio files and slide presentations) are accessed through the Internet. Students may choose to download these files for offline work. See FAQs for full details.

Curriculum Features

The Distance Learning Nutrition Educator and Nutrition Consultant programs include the same curriculum foundation as their classroom-based counterparts, with special features to enhance the distance learning format. In addition to the standard course materials, the Distance Learning student receives audio files and slide presentations online, educational videos, and a telephone consultation with a Personal Mentor after each course topic is completed.

We've Got Community

Distance Learning students interact online with classroom-based students and faculty via the Bauman College exclusive Student Community Forum. They share questions, experiences, course work, recipes, etc. Students may also choose to participate in monthly tele-lecture conference calls with Director Ed Bauman, Ph.D., as well as semi-annual on-site workshops hosted at one of the three Bauman College Bay Area schools.

The Distance Learning program at Bauman College is a dream come true. The information provided is extremely comprehensive and on the cutting edge of the nutrition field. The mentors are bright, available, and provide wonderful feedback. I feel I will come away with everything I need to have a thriving practice that will greatly benefit my community.
