Vitality Fasting Retreats | Print |
Bauman College Vitality Fasting Rejuvenation Retreats are offered twice a year, in the Spring and Summer and are designed to encourage cleansing and rejuvenation of body, mind and spirit. The Spring 2009 Retreat will be held May 14-17 at the Calistoga Village Inn. The Inn contains three naturally warm geothermal mineral pools that are hidden away in a colorful garden setting. The swimming pool, soaking pool, Jacuzzi tub and dry sauna offer you a natural way to unwind and renew. Calistoga Village Inn is located just steps away from the Silvarado trail head leading to some of Napa County's most beautiful hiking trails

Our retreats are held in a beautiful, natural setting where the air is fresh, the water pure, and the light clear. Edward Bauman, M.Ed., Ph.D., the program’s facilitator and inner travel guide, has crafted a unique program that brings together all the ingredients for self-healing. On retreat, a new culture comes to life that affirms the opening of heart and soul.

Why Fast?

Fasting is a time-honored spiritual practice that can help you let go of unwanted habits and achieve a greater sense of balance and vitality. Designed to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit, you will have the opportunity to explore your issues around food, self care and personal growth in a safe and supportive environment. Peel off layers of stress. Reclaim your center and say hello to your healthy self. Read: It's Time for A Spring Cleaning: Fasting for Healing and Detoxification

The Daily Fare

Savor fresh, organic fruit and vegetable juice for breakfast and lunch. Sip cool herbal teas in the afternoon and savor warm, nutrient-rich mineral broths as day turns to night.

A Well-Deserved Escape

Enjoy the gift of quiet time in a beautiful setting. Choose your own balance of solitude and group activity. Fasters enjoy the comforts of a space where they can develop long-lasting friendships, listen to music, participate in various daily activities, or just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Daily Activities

Daily activities include morning group meetings, yoga, meditation, health education classes, arts and crafts, hiking, and often live music. Individual bodywork, healing sessions, and nutrition counseling are also available.

To Prepare for a Fast

Two weeks prior to the fast, we advise you to reduce consumption of the following foods and substances. This will minimize detoxification discomforts during the fast and maximize the healing benefits. Gradually diminish the following until completely eliminated:

  • Refined sugar and sugar substitutes
Ed Bauman, Ph.D. & Karen Rotstein, CNC Fast Facilitators
  • Refined flour products like pastries, pasta, and bagels
  • Dairy products like milk, cheeses, butter, and yogurt
  • Caffeine: coffee, tea, diet drinks
  • Nicotine
  • Alcohol and recreational drugs
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Red meats
  • Poultry
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Use of television, computers, and cell phones

Integrative Health Care

Fasting has demonstrated therapeutic benefits for numerous health conditions. However, it is never
intended to replace competent medical care. Fasters with diagnosed health conditions are
strongly advised to consult with Dr. Bauman and their primary health care providers to discuss a customized program. The Bauman College retreat clinical staff includes a variety of skilled health professionals.
