40 Days of Yoga: Day 11

The 40 Days of Yoga workshop has really helped me determine what I need in order to feel my best. I consider this opportunity to be so in tune with myself an incredible blessing. However, being in tune with what I need is only good if I have the determination to actually do what I need. That’s a completely different story.

This thought train comes about because I love to sleep. And as much as I love to sleep, I love to hit the snooze button. One of my fellow 40 Dayers resolved to give up hitting the snooze button while doing the workshop. Brilliant. Really, an inspiring idea. I thought I might try it as well.

Fast forward 4 days, and I’ve been successful exactly zero times. It’s hard to break that habit! What’s funny is that I’ve gotten so in touch with what I need to feel my best that I know I need exactly 7.5 hours of sleep in order to wake up refreshed and energetic. And yet I still savor each additional 5 minutes that snooze but gives me…for another 30 to 60 minutes. How much willpower does it take to follow through on good intentions? I thought identifying them would be the tricky part, but I’m finding the application is much harder.

I’m beginning tomorrow with renewed resolve. It’s time to make something of this deep soul-searching I’ve been doing. Like I said earlier, knowing what you need will only take you so far. You’ve got to be willing to act on those needs if you want to enjoy the benefits.

Goodbye, Snooze Button. I’ll miss you most of all.

Good morning, 6:30am. I look forward to getting to know you better.
