Quick Nutrition Tip: Herbal Teas

Herbal teas are a wonderful way to incorporate nutrients into our daily diet.  The benefits of green tea are well documented but what about some of the wonderful benefits of some other herbal teas?

Scientists from the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University recently looked into the health benefits of three of the most popular herbal teas.  Take a look at the benefits below:

Chamomile tea is well known for its calming properties.  Tufts researchers also found that it has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

Peppermint tea has traditionally been used as a digestive aid and the Tufts researchers found that not only did it also have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties but also antiviral properties as well.

Hibiscus tea was found to have positive effects on blood pressure.  Researchers note that three cups of tea per day led to significant reduction in systolic blood pressure.
